Professor Kuku was recently invited to join the inugural class of Fellows of the American Mathematical Society(AMS). He will attend the Joint Mathematics Meetings ( January 9 - 11) at San Diego as well as attend on January 11 the induction ceremony for the inaugural Fellows of the AMS.



December 10, 2015.

Professor Kuku attended ,December 9-11, the Symposium on " What new Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Funding Mechanisms in Africa" organized by the Senegalese National Academy of Sciences and Techniques . During the symposium, he chaired the sessions on "STI Funding in Africa: History and Initiatives" as well as on " Mobilization of Funds for Research". He also participated in a Panel on " STI Funding: What prospects for Africa.".

November. 19, 2015.

Professor Kuku has been in Benin Republic, Nov19 - December 20, 2015 as a Distinguished Professor at the IMSP--Institut de Mathematiques et de Sciences Physique , Porto Novo, to help the Institute set up a Ph.D programme in K-theory as well give seminars and intensive post-graduate lectures.

Professor Kuku attended the Launching of the AAS platform for Health Research --AESA---Alliance for Excellence in Science in Africa--created by AAS and NEPAD with funding from Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Wellcome Trust, and UK DfID(Department for International Development). Professor Kuku gave a welcome address at the Launching.(see photograph)

August 28, 2015.

Professor Kuku attended as a resource person the first African Academy of Science (AAS) Pan-African Science Olympiads (PASO) as well as the 24th edition of Pan-African Mathematics Olympiads (PAMO), Nigeria. Professor Kuku had initiated AMU-PAMO in 1986 when he became President of the AMU and the AMU commission on PAMO was created. He was President of AMU for nine years 1986-95. He also initiated the AAS PASO as President of AAS in 2014 when the AAS commission on PASO was created. Professor Kuku gave speeches at the Opening and Closing ceremonies of the Olympiads and presented medals and trophies to the winners.(see photographs)

Professor Kuku will attend the NAS(National academy of sciences, USA)/EAS(Ethiopian Academy of Sciences) workshop on "Supporting family and Community Investments in young children globally" taking place at Addis Ababa, Ethiopia July 27-29, 2015. During the workshop, he will chair a Sessionon "Ethiopian Ministry Policy Perspectives" on July 28, 2015.

Professor Kuku attended July 6-7 2015, (as President of AAS), the first Bilateral AAS(African Academy of sciences)/KAST(Korean Academy of Science and Technology ) Symposium titled "Bio-Sciences and Biotechnology for Socio-economic Development" as well as the Bilateral talks hosted by the AAS at the AAS Headquarters in Nairobi. He co-chaired the Symposium and the Bilateral Talks with the President of KAST, Professor Sung H. Park. The symposium and bilateral talks were part of the implementation of an AAS/KAST MoU for closer working relationship between AAS and KAST. The Second Bilateral symposium will take place in Seoul, South Korea, next year, 2016

Professor Kuku participated at the 34th Annual Conference of the Nigerian Mathematical Society (NMS)  June 23-26,2015  at the University of Lagos, Nigeria, as a Special Guest of Honour and Special Guest speaker (Plenary Mathematics lecture). He gave a lecture titled " K-theory, Representation Theory, and Classification of Various Mathematical Objects and Structures". During the conference, he was awarded the NMS honour: FNMS (Fellow of the Nigerian Mathematical society), the first time this honour is being awarded by the Society.

April 28, 2015.

Professor Kuku participated at an International conference on "Learning together for change: Advancing Education for all through Higher Education" , April 27-29, 2015,  at the Nelson Mandela Institution for Science and Technology, Arusha, Tanzania. During the conference , he  was a Panelist for the topic "The Role of Higher Education in the Development of Africa" 

MARCH 11, 2015

Professor Kuku participated at the African Higher Education Summit in Dakar, Senegal, March 10-12, 2015. During the Summit, he chaired a panel discussion on "Governance and Regulatory regime of African Higher Education" and was also a panelist at a panel discussion on "Science, Technology and Innovation(STI)."

FEBRUARY 6, 2015

Professor Kuku participated and gave an invited plenary lecture at the 4th International conference on Mathematics and Information Science at University of Science and Technology, Zewail City, Egypt February 5-7, 2015. The title of his lecture was: "K-theory, Representation theory and classifications of various mathematical objects and structures"
